KRANTI’s MISSION

Kranti empowers girls from Mumbai’s red-light areas to become agents of social change.

Kranti (Revolution) educates and empowers trafficked girls, the daughters of sex workers, and otherwise socially marginalized girls (Revolutionaries) to become agents of social change within their communities. By providing them with a healing home, formal and extracurricular education, leadership and job training, as well as the skills and confidence to solve social problems, Kranti enables the Revolutionaries to emerge as leaders and economic assets, redefining the value of women in Indian society and globally.

KRANTI’s BELIEF

Kranti believes that when girls from red-light areas have access to the same education, training, and opportunities as people from privileged backgrounds, they are not only equally talented leaders, but that they are far better leaders – more innovative, compassionate and resilient due to their backgrounds and life experiences. We believe girls who have faced marginalization and discrimination bring added value as leaders and agents of change, not despite their backgrounds, but because of their backgrounds. Our girls are, therefore, revolutionaries.

KRANTI’s OBJECTIVES

  • To provide a safe shelter for teen and pre-adult girls who have suffered from degrees of sexual violence and trauma.
  • To provide a holistic learning and healing environment for the survivors of sexual abuse.
  • To provide access to educational opportunities and skill development that empowers and enables survivors to become ‘Agents of Social Change’.
  • To create awareness among survivors and their sphere of influences (families & communities) about their judicial rights and enable them to avail civil and community resources.
